Opportunities to Help in Ukraine
So, we have learned that there are many Rockford and Rockford Rotary connections….Ruth Little’s grandfather was born there and eventually moved to Canada. Brovary, Ukraine which is 25 miles from Kyiv was named Rockford’s first sister city under Mayor Box. Their Mayor’s wife spent time in Rockford and their son got married here.
Dennis Johnson built his first Kids Around the World “playground “ in Brovary. Elise THOUGHT our club may have helped finance that in some way….
This past week Mayor McNamara called the current Brovary Mayor who’s secretary was describing the horrors there and had to wait for the sounds of bombing to stop before she was able to continue the conversation. Their current Mayor responded with an emotional plea in an email. He was asking Rockford for resources and support.
Hence, CFNIL and Kids Around the World have set up secure sites to make donations. CFNIL has been swamped with calls asking for such a site. They are matching the first $5K. John Groh was at the press conference and Rockford Area Conf and Visitor Center is also pledging 5K.
