Environmental Committee Update and Plans

Here is the report that Environmental Committee Co-Chair, Rus Johansson, presented at the April 7th meeting.
Charter statement from one of seven Rotary International focus groups titled Protecting the Environment: "We are committed to supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment. We empower communities to access grants and other resources, embrace local solutions, and spur innovation in an effort to address the causes and reduce the effects of climate change and environmental degradation."
Our committee co-chairs, Tyler Smith and Russ Johansson along with members, Linda Niemiec, Linda Johnson, Lori Gummow, Eric Moe, Helen Hill and Mike Foreman have selected our first project to plant a rain garden and other plant material on the east side of Memorial Hall on Earth Day, Friday April 22nd.
We are fortunate to have Tyler’s connection with the Rockford Park District to be able to participate in both short term and long term projects that are currently slated west of the Rock River. Besides Memorial Hall, other potential projects includes a rain garden at Searles park by the Central Avenue entrance and planting of trees at Levings Lake.
We need no more than twelve volunteers at each shift, 10 AM to noon and noon to 2 PM on April 22nd.
A signup sheet will be available at our next meeting, April 14th.
