Rockford College Scholarships

In the 1992-93 Rotary year, two new scholarships of $1,000 each for a Rockford College student were funded for the first time.  One, for a worthy student enrolled at Rockford College studying Criminal Justice, and the other to a worthy student selected by the College's administration, who is need of funds.

In the 1993-94 Rotary year, these two scholarships were named in honor of the two outstanding Rotarians by the Board of Directors.  First, the Leslie H. Geddes Scholarship for a student studying Criminal Justice as a profession.  The second, in honor of John A. Howard, Ph.D, who served as President of Rockford College from 1960 to 1977, is presented to an entering freshman at Rockford College from the Rockford area deemed worthy of financial help with an interest in any field of study.

Both scholarships are presented annually by the President of Rockford Rotary at Rockford College's Spring Convocation.

Burdette Anderson Scholarships

In 2002, a Scholarship Fund was established in honor of former Rockford Rotarian Burdette Anderson by his family.  The proceeds from this fund are used to fund two $2,000 scholarships during the club's annual High School Recognition program.  This annual Rockford Rotary program recognizes a male and female high school senior and a faculty member from each of the area High Schools.  Each student is asked to write an essay and these essays are judged by members of the Scholarship committee and Burdette Anderson's daughters.  A male and female student is selected as the recipients for the scholarships.  The scholarships are presented by Burdette's daughters, Linda Oshita and Linda Vetrono, as the highlight of the High School Recognition program.
