As the title suggests, Alex and Jeff will talk about how medical care is changing in these modern times and how the education of doctors is changing to keep up with the constant improvements in medical care. This will be a very informative program which should be of interest to all of us. This will be an excellent opportunity to bring a guest or prospective member. They can join us in person at Memorial Hall or via Zoom.
Elise Cadigan will introduce our presenters and act as Rotary host.
Jay Sandine started working for the Park District when he was 19 years old while finishing at NIU. He attended the annual job fair and was hired during the summer mowing greens and fairways at Elliot Golf Course. He fell in live with the Park District and it's many customers. He has worked at the ice rinks, Lockwood Park, the golf courses, swimming pools, Lewis Lemon Community Center, the tennis center, Forest city Queen and other facilities during his career and loved every minute of it.
Jay is a third generation Parks and Recreation professional. His grandfather was Jasper Giacone who was the first Site Superintendent at Rock Cut State Park. His father was Jim Sandine who was the Site Supervisor at Shabona Lake State Park. Jay grew up in Shabona and actually lived within the park boundaries.
Jay was promoted to Assistant Executive Director in 2015 and assumed the position of Executive Director on June 24, 2017 when Tim Dimke retired.
Jay has an undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Rockford University
Jay will talk about the value of the Rockford Park District and how it is much more than just parks and recreation.
He will provide an update about how the Park District is achieving the community's priorities and highlight some investments being made in neighborhood parks and priority areas and why.
This is always an interesting and informative program and one to invite a guest or prospective member to join us in person at Memorial Hall to enjoy lunch and conversation or via Zoom.
Paul Von Driska will introduce our presenter and act as Rotary host.
I want to pass along a BIG thank-you to those Rotarians that helped with Service projects. Bell ringing at Woodman’s this past weekend and next week at Farm and Fleet.
Also a new project for us- letter writing from Santa through Furst Staffing and Stroll on State.
I am also planning a Rotary Happy Hour at Prairie Street again for Thursday 12/28 since we will not be having a regular meeting the week of Christmas. We will start the New Year on Jan 4, 2024.
The regularly scheduled December Board of Directors meeting is canceled for the month of December, we will meet next on Tuesday January 16, 2024. Please remember to schedule and have your committee meetings.
Also if you would like lunch don’t forget to pay your lunch bill.
The Membership Committee is wanting to redesign and update the brochure about our club that is given to new and prospective members. We need someone who is skilled in brochure design to help us with this.
If you are interested in helping with this, please reach out to Kathy Kwiat-Hess at kathykwiathess@gmail.com.
This is a new project this year. During Stroll on State this year, kids were encouraged to write letters to Santa and drop them in a mailbox. Furst Staffing collected the letters and Rockford Rotarians answered them on Wednesday, November 29th and Thrusday November 30th in place of our regular meeting.
The project was organized by Beck Rundquist and Suzanne Shelain (from Furst Staffing), The letters were endearing, humorous and educational.
A thank you to all who participated in this project. It sounds like everyone had a good time.
L-R Mike Foreman, Suzanne Shelain, Kathy Kwiat-Hess, Linda Niemiec, Jeff Fahrenwald (his replies in English and Spanish!), and Becky Rundquist.
On November 30th, another group met at Furst Staffing and also answered letters.
L-R - President Pete Rundquist, Paul Von Driska, Becky Rundquist, Linda Johnson, Lynn Momberger, and Suzanne Shelain. Missing are Kathy Kwiat-Hess, Mike Foreman, and Suzanne Berger.
On November 25th, several members of Rockford Rotary became "Rundquist Rotary Ringers" at Schnucks on Harlem Road.
For the new members and to refresh some older members, Dick Rundquist (Pete's Dad) started our annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing project and made it his annual crusade to make sure it was a success. He got the stools and aprons that we still use and made sure that all shifts were covered, even if it meant that he took the last shift if he couldn't strong arm someone else. With Dick's passing, Pete and Becky took over and continue the "Rundquist Rotary Ringers" legacy.
Thank you to all who signed up to ring this year.
Patti Bigger seems to be having fun.
Mary Maxted and Becky Rundquist are smiles.
President Pete and First Lady Becky. Pete seems to be trying to tinkle Becky's ear.
On December 2nd more Rockford Rotarians did their "Rundquist Rotary Ringers" thing at Farm and Fleet on East Riverside.
Brian De Benedetto and his son Gabriel show up every year to ring bells.
Jo An Todd and Helen Hill seem to be enjoying themselves.
Again, Thank You to everyone who helped out with Bell Ringing this year.
Each week we will be publishing a message from the Rotary International Foundation. This week's message is:
HOW DOES THE ROTARY FOUNDATION RECOGNIZE ROTARY CLUBS?
Donations to the Foundation are essential to securing and expanding our programs throughout the world. We recognize with gratitude clubs that make extraordinary contributions.
• 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club: These are clubs in which all dues-paying members are Paul Harris Fellows. The club receives a banner. This is a one-time recognition, but the intent is that the club will maintain its status.
• 100% Foundation Giving Club: This banner is given to clubs that have an average of US$100 in per capita giving and in which every dues-paying member donates at least $25 during the year to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus, the Endowment, or approved global grants.
• Every Rotarian, Every Year Club: This banner is awarded to clubs that have a minimum Annual Fund contribution of $100 per capita during the year and in which every dues-paying member personally contributes at least $25 to the Annual Fund in that time period.
• Top Three Per Capita in Annual Fund Giving: These banners are presented each year to the three clubs in each district with the highest per capita Annual Fund giving.
• 100% Paul Harris Society Club: This banner is awarded to clubs in which every duespaying member contributes at least $1,000 during the year to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus, or an approved global grant.
• 100% Rotary’s Promise Club: These are clubs in which every dues-paying member supports the Endowment with an outright gift of $1,000 or more or a commitment of at least that amount in an estate plan. These clubs receive a certificate upon request.
