Nov. 30th Program - Rotary Foundation - PDG Ruth Lee
Past District Governor Ruth Lee will speak to the club about the Rotary International Foundation and some of it's programs.  Ruth served District 6420 as Governor during the 2013-2014 Rotary year.  Since then, she has served Rotary and District 6420 in many different roles and continues today as a spokesperson for the Rotary Foundation.

This is a very informative program not only for new members, but will also serve as a reminder for older members.  It will also be an excellent opportunity to bring a guest or prospective member.
New Member - Haddon Anderson
The Club welcomed a new member at the November 16th meeting.  His name is Haddon Anderson and he was sponsored by Linda Gerber with the classification of Executive Director.  Haddon has been the Executive Director for Stateline Youth for Christ since September of 2016.  Prior to that he was the assistant varsity boys basketball coach at Rockford Lutheran High School.  He was a career coach/work-study coordinator at the Lydia Urban Academy in Rockford.  From September of 2012 to August of 2016, he was the Youth Pastor at Stonebridge Church.  From 2012 to 2014, he was a featured columnist for the Bleacher Report and was an NBA writer, specializing in coverage of the Chicago Bulls.
Haddon graduated from Rockford Lutheran High School in 2006.  He earned a BS in Sociology from Cedarville University in 2010 where he played basketball and served as a resident assistant.  He went on to obtain a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Moody Theological Seminary in 2014.
Haddon is married to Julie and they have a foster son Richard, age 9; Adelyn, age 4; and Cameron, 6 months.  He enjoys family, sports (particularly basketball and reading.  He serves on the I.D. Pennock Branch Advisory Council of the YMCA.  He has traveled to Scotland and would love to go to China.  He really enjoys trying local restaurants, particularly pizza places.
We would encourage our members to make an effort to introduce yourself to Haddon and welcome him to Rockford Rotary

Community Volunteers Needed for Golden Apple
Golden Apple is seeking volunteers to read and score portfolios submitted by Golden Apple teacher nominees.  This is the next step that comes after a teacher is nominated for a Golden Apple Award.  Teachers write a portfolio that includes a personal essay, they tell us about their teaching background, and volunteer readers help us to read and score them.  Each portfolio is read 6 times and the scores lead us to narrowing down our field of candidates to 20 finalists. New volunteers are required to attend a training from 4 - 5 p.m. on Friday December 1 at Rockford University where you can pick up your portfolios to read or if that doesn't work into your schedule, we can find a time to meet one on one for a training.  Evaluations are due back to us that Tuesday, Dec. 5 and can be dropped off or emailed or faxed. Lots of reading -- but interesting and valuable reading.  Contact Golden Apple at 815-226-4180 or jennifer@goldenappleofrockford.com with questions or to sign up to volunteer.
Member Directory at your Fingertips
Have you ever wanted to contact a member by phone or email but didn't have their information?  Well, if you have a smart phone or iPad you can get the Rockford Rotary Directory and other information right on your phone or iPad.

All you need to do is go to your Apple or Android app store and search for the ClubRunner app (The logo will be a white CR with the blue background).  When you install this app you will be asked to sign in with your Rockford Rotary member log in. After you log in do this you will automatically be connected to the Rockford Rotary Directory. In addition the member directory, you will be able to see upcoming events, speakers and board meetings, as well as, club executives, board members and committee members. However, there is one issue with the app at this time; the story feature doesn't update, but they are working on that feature.
